PAWANAMUKTASANAS
Pawanmuktasana (PM) is a combination of three Sanskrit words: Pawan, which means wind or prana; Mukta meaning release; and Asana meaning pose or physical posture. This is a subtle but immensely strong yoga practice. In Sanskrit, it is also known as Sukshma Vyayama, a subtle form of exercise.
In simpler terms, PM can be explained as ‘a group of gentle and easy practices performed in a specified sequence for releasing knots from the visceral muscles and joints of the body’. Pawanmuktasana Series-1 (PM-1), Anti Rheumatic Group:
Yogic practices of this series are easy–looking, gentle body movements which are very useful for loosening up of each and every joint. These movements can easily be performed at every age. They are for all major joints of the body and constitute seventeen practices where the joints involved are moved in all possible directions.
Pawanmuktasana Series-2 (PM-2), Digestive/Abdominal Group:
These are eight different practices concerned mainly with the digestive system. These are excellent for eliminating indigestion, constipation, gastric problems, diabetes, and most of the abdominal disorders. This series is also very effective for toning up both male and female reproductive organs.
Pawanmuktasana Series-3 (PM-3), Energy Block Group or Shakti Bandhasana:
This group of asanas includes nine different practices facilitating free flow of energy within the body by removing neuro-muscular knots. These practices also eliminate energy blockage in the spine. It is good to activate the lungs and heart, improve the function of endocrine system and tone the pelvic organs and muscles. This series of practices is also beneficial for menstrual problems.
